When Johnny Depp was dropped from the sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film in 2018, fans were understandably unhappy. Captain Jack Sparrow was, after all, the core of the Disney brand, but Depp was also going through a nasty divorce with Amber Heard at the time. Is there a chance Depp might return to the franchise if Disney approached him about it?
“I wasn’t aware of that, but it doesn’t surprise me,” Depp stated. “Two years had gone by of constant worldwide talk about me being this wife-beater. So I’m sure that Disney was trying to cut ties to be safe. The #MeToo movement was in full swing at that point.”
Rotterborn further suggested that Depp is no longer interested in returning to the franchise.
“The fact is, Mr. Depp if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?” Rottenborn asked
Mr. Rottenborn, you are correct,” Depp said. Captain Jack Sparrow was played by Johnny Depp in five Pirates of the Caribbean films, and he was set to return in the sixth. The sixth picture, however, will be a reboot, and Depp will not star in it, according to Disney.
